Lawrenceburg Speedway hosts the first ever Indiana Nationals. Over forty cars from as far away as New York, Canada and New Orleans show up for the event. Lynn Ambrose sweeps both nights of racing. Track conditions are the roughest seen at Lawrenceburg on Friday evening. Promoter Tom Wieck sticks with it and delivers a smooth fast racing surface on Saturday evening. We hope to provide a more in depth report soon.

Waynesfield Motorsports Park kicked off it Saturday evening program on Saturday evening. Over 25 upright 600cc mini sprints are in attendance. In the end it is Jared Horstman taking home the victory, ending Tim Viles run of wins from the season before. Other strong runs included Craig Weber who finished 2nd and Tim Viles who finished third. Laps were also led Jamie Paul and Lewis Christian.

Lawrenceburg Practice Session

We visited Lawrenceburg on Saturday afternoon for their practice session. There was an impressive turnout of upright mini-sprints on hand. Most impressive was the fact that most of the drivers were new to the sport. In all we counted about fourteen uprights. Some were 1200cc cars and some were 600cc cars. Didn't catch everyone's names unfortunately (sorry for mis-spellings). Two new youngsters were on hand that did a nice job. Brett Burnett and Jake Cook. I got to speak with Jake Cook after he exited his first session. He was smiling from ear to ear and said that it wasn't that much different than racing go-karts. Burnett suffered clutch problems in his first session, but seemed to have things squared away in the second session and doing a nice job on the track. Another rookie this season, Josh Spradlin was on hand in his white number 16. He also appeared to be doing a nice job ontrack. At least six 600cc competitors were on hand in their new machines. Greg Nicholas had a freshly painted Doemelt with a 600cc F4 and Joey Ahr had a brand new ERC with an F4i. Steve Allan was on hand with his R6 powered Bailey. Jamie Paul was on hand, having switched to an R6 for this season and attempting to shake it down. J.C. Boyken was on hand also shaking down an ERC chassis powered by a Honda F2 or F3. There were a couple of TQ midgets, a couple of Ford Focus midgets and a modified midget on hand. Jerry Tague of the A.M.S.A was in attendance and commented that he already had 17 pre-registered drivers for the Indiana Nationals on May 6th and 7th that aren't local drivers. Next up is practice at Waynesfield Motorsports Park next weekend.

AMSA Indiana 1200 Nationals Heats Up

The Indiana 1200 Nationals being put on by the American Mini Sprint Association continues to pick up steam with more and more competitors joining from all across the country. Owner Greg Shobe recently reported that the front stretch grandstands will be ready for the 2005 season. The track is also at work finalizing 2005 rules. There are several new mini sprints being built for competition at the track this year. Don't be surprised to see weekly car counts climb past thirty.

Welcome to Cincy-Racing's Mini Sprint Blog

Welcome to the new mini sprint blog spot on www.cincy-racing.com. This will be an area where information on area mini-sprint racing gets posted. We'll try to stick to the whole concept that blogs are a quick and easy way to post information. As long as everyone plays by the rules and keeps their comments as close to politically correct and free of profanity, we'll keep the topics open for comment.

There is really a lot to be excited about if you are an upright mini-sprint racer in the tri-state. 2005 is certainly shaping up to be one of the hottest years for mini-sprints on many levels. There will be opportunities to run at several different tracks within a few hour driving distance and from all indications a raft of new competitors, pushing car counts at all tracks skyward.

The A.M.S.A currently has six shows booked at the famed Lawrenceburg Speedway. This includes a 2 day national event May 6th and 7th. This promises to be one of the biggest events of the season with much in the way of sponsorship money and competitors from around the country already making plans to attend. News of the mini-sprint shows at Lawrenceburg Speedway have brought several new cars to the table. Upright 600cc drivers should remember that they are welcomed for all of the shows with a good chance of a bonus pay-out for the highest finishing 600cc car.

Although specifics on the operation of 35 Raceway have not been announced, Tony Boetcher has announced that his group will host races during the 2005 season. The rumors around what that means have been many. Of course the possibility that racing will return to the current 35 Raceway location is one possibility. Another possibility is that he would move his events to the Clark County Fairgrounds, however all sources are beggining to say that this is highly unlikely. Currently the most likely scenario has a new track being constructed near Frankfort, Ohio. The rumor is that the track would be a 1/4 mile around the outside. Stay tuned will post the rumors as they come in.

Racing will return to Waynesfield Motorsports Park. This should also be a bright spot for the upright mini-sprints in 2005. This is a super nice, fast facility that started posting car counts over 20 cars during the 2004 season. There has been a host of new cars cropping up in that area over the past few months. It wouldn't be suprising at all to see car counts over 30 cars during the 2005 season.

Limaland has announced that they will be running a special $500 to win, $50 to start event on August 19th. Limaland should provide great exposure for this growing class.

That's all for now. Will continue to add to this blog as more news and rumors become available.
